My husband Laurent kept 1/2 tank of gas at all times when we lived in Stuttgart, Germany where even a normal commute could be delayed by snow storms by up to 45 minutes to an hour.
Having a car run out of gas creates havoc during an evacuation for forest fires or other emergencies.
Our family still follows the German 1/2 tank rule for peace of mind.
We also kept blankets in the car in Germany in case of long delays while traveling.
